The current production on the Clinton Area Showboat Theater Stage is “You Can’t
Take it With You”.
This is a larger cast than has been on stage before this summer. There is a lot
of interaction, large number in the Sycamore family plus other members of the
household.
The set is fantastic! The scene is at the Sycamore residence in 1936. Starting
right away is a lot of movement with Essie Carmichael, by Jennifer Gilbert,
doing the ballerina act all over the place. Her husband Ed, by Josh Wright plays
at the xylophone. Penny Sycamore by Jalayne Riewerts is busy writing a novel,
one of several she has in the works. Mr. DePinna by Steven Piechocki, is working
on fireworks in the basement with Paul Sycamore by Mark X. Laskowski. Then there
is Grandpa Vanderhof, wonderfully portrayed by Rob Engelson. Essie’s dance
instructor is Henderson by Craig A. Miller.
Alice Sycamore, by Kay Ann Allmand has been seeing Tony Kirby, by Joshua Estrada
(her boss’s son) and brings him home to meet the family. To say the least the
Sycamores are not your average family. Things get more serious between Alice and
Tony, they become engaged. Tony brings his mother, by Sandee Cunningham, and
father, by Patrick Stinson, to dinner at the Sycamore’s on the wrong night.
Things get really hectic from then on.
Grandpa’s philosophy on life is brought to light for all concerned. His main
theme is to “Relax” and he proves his point: “You Can’t Take it With You”.
“You Can’t Take it With You” is playing at the Clinton Area Showboat Theater
through Aug. 5th.
